Passenger Movements in Changi Airport

In the first quarter of 2013, Changi Airport recorded an increase in passenger, aircraft and airfreight movements. The increase was attributed to the long weekend last Holy Week. The airport reported receiving 13.05 million passengers just in the first quarter of 2013, which is 6.2 higher than the same period last year. What could be the reason for this?

The airport is located in Singapore and it is considered as a major hub in Southeast Asia. Changi Airport is managed by the Changi Airport Group and is the home of Singapore Airlines, Tiger Airways, SilkAir, Singapore Airlines Cargo and many other domestic airlines. To date, Changi caters to over 100 airlines with thousands of flights weekly bound to 220 cities in 60 countries worldwide. Runways and Taxiways

The airport created two parallel runways-02L/20R and 02C/20C. Both runways are also utilized by the country’s Air Force. The length of their taxiways is 25,300m with a width of 30m.

Passenger Terminal Buildings

The airport has three terminals. Terminal 1 is the oldest terminal and has 29 aerobridge and a floor area of 3,014,100 square feet. Terminal 2 has 35 aerobridge and an area of 3,850,000 square feet. Terminal 3 has 28 aerobridge and an area of 4,100,000 square feet. Terminal 4 is currently under construction and designed to serve budget carriers and airlines.

Air Traffic Control Tower

ATC is 80 meters high. The tower will provide advisories to aircraft like the flow of traffic and exchange information to pilots. Thanks to this tower, collisions are eliminated.
